The feasibility of using laminate in the kitchen

Mid 70s of the last century. In Sweden, the light is the prototype of a modern laminate. But only after a dozen years, the technology of its manufacture was created, the foundations of which are still used. Since that time, much has changed: this flooring has won the trust of millions of its users around the world, it proudly entered the interiors of almost every building.

There are four classes of laminate: 31,32,33,34. (21-23 long ago discontinued). Specialists for the kitchen are advised to choose 33 or 34 class of operation. At home, this floor will serve faithfully for about 15 years, some manufacturers even give a lifetime warranty on products.

Reviews on the use of laminate in the kitchen

Before assigning this same class to a laminate flooring, a “sandwich” of 4 layers is subjected to tests for: abrasion resistance, adhesive strength of layers, sliding resistance, resistance to long-term load, heat resistance, antistatic, impact resistance, light resistance, water resistance, etc. (European standard EN 13329 includes 18 tests).

A versatile floor covering with many unique features. But how will it behave in the heart of any house and apartment? After all, around him there are many justified and not very myths.

This is not just a reason for discussion, because deciding on repairs, this building material will certainly be among the favorites to choose from. Real reviews about the laminate in the kitchen - this is what will help to make the right choice and dispel all possible doubts.

Laminate in the kitchen for 6 years.
A comment
The laminate is 6 years old, I don’t remember the company, it was bought for a long time and it was not the most expensive at that time. I often wash my floors with a damp cloth, we have a small child, nothing swelled anywhere, didn’t break off (although cups were beaten a couple of times and pots fell). Traces are slightly visible with a certain incidence of light from a children's car and a bicycle, but the child rode on it for a long time and constantly. The laminate was swollen in the bedroom when the battery leaked and did not immediately see the leak. In general, we are satisfied, now we are doing repairs and are going to change the entire laminate to glossy. I never wanted tile in the kitchen, although I like it visually.
pros
Warm floor (relative to the tile, unless it is of course without heating), comfortable, looks good, practical, dust on the light does not strike the eye.
Minuses
I do not observe cons.

Personal experience using a waterproof Tarkett laminate in the kitchen
A comment
A year has already passed, as in our kitchen the laminate floor. The wife is pleased with the modern beautiful and shiny coating.

Changing the floor in the kitchen and choosing modern types of coatings, we first proceeded from the mistakes of others.

Friends had a tile, and we did not like its shortcomings - the cold floor, the broken dishes, the loud ringing from the dropped utensils.
pros
They turned their attention to the laminate, which has advantages: reliability and durability, quick and easy installation, resistance to stains and bacteria, and most importantly - easy care to use. If we add more properties of the substrate under the laminate, we get thermal insulation and sound insulation too.

We found a suitable laminate imitating natural stone. In many collections, you can choose laminate options for exotic wood, ceramic tiles and linoleum.

The flooring for the kitchen requires resistance to moisture, dirt, and mechanical stress (abrasion, falling of heavy and sharp objects, heating, scratches). Our doubts were dispelled by the consultant who selected the moisture-proof and waterproof Tarkett laminate necessary for the kitchen. It is coated with a layer of water-repellent polymer, which withstands loads, keeps the surface from damage.

In addition, it can withstand an unforeseen flood for up to 6 hours.
I took 33 class. Everything is fine! Pleasing to the eye!
Minuses
I theoretically noted only one drawback - if the neighbors flood, or your washing machine or taps let flow, then the accident must be eliminated in 6 hours. Otherwise, the seams of the laminate can swell, there will be a loss of appearance and further replacement of the entire floor.

If you take into account the class of the laminate, not chasing the cost savings, it is better to buy a 32 - 33 class laminate for the kitchen.

Laminate in the kitchen - a non-standard solution for the repair of the kitchen
A comment
I needed to make repairs in the kitchen. Moreover, the repair, as they say, was urgent. I didn’t want the tile. Well, this tile infuriates! Always reminded a hospital ... Upon learning of my torment, a friend advised me to use a laminate. At first, he believed that he was unsuccessfully joking. After all, everyone is aware that moisture and it are incompatible. And this is ridiculous: a laminate, and suddenly, in the kitchen. But, after deciding to study the issue, I learned a lot.

It turned out that I was mistaken. It turned out that you can use the laminate, but it must be moisture resistant. I bought such a flooring, and then, with the help of my comrades, installed it. Satisfied with the acquisition. And here's why: the laminate is beautiful, tolerates a “meeting" with water well. It's nice that he carries the load. You can walk on it with bare feet.
pros
unique quality characteristics, ease of installation.
Minuses
a laminate of this class costs a lot of money, and you can not buy it everywhere.

Laminate in the kitchen - an alternative to linoleum
A comment
There is much debate about whether it is possible to lay laminate in the kitchen.
Of course, you can lay the tile and sleep peacefully. But at a price, tile is not available to everyone. Yes, and she is cold. Therefore, we decided to put a laminate in the kitchen (because in the rooms it had already been used for more than three years by that time).

First climbed the construction forums. The information there is very contradictory. To be honest - we even got a little confused. Then they turned to a familiar master. He gave advice to look for a special moisture-resistant laminate.

When studying laminate flooring in a store, we chose a coating with the following characteristics:
1. In the marking on the packaging, a tap with a drop was depicted.
2. Class - 33. With increased wear resistance.
3. The locks are waxed (from moisture).
4. The surface was taken not matte, but matte. In order not to slip.
5. The color chosen is Mokko Marble (from Alloc).

Laying the cover was invited by a specialist. He insulated all joints with a special mastic.

The result pleased us. A year has passed, and the appearance of our floor is as good as new.

In the kitchen, someone from the family is constantly hustling. Grandchildren like to ride their cars on the flat floor. But the cover looks great! That's when linoleum was lying, then the top of the coating very quickly wiped away from constant washing and walking.

About moisture. The kitchen has a kitchen. You will spill water on the floor, then you will drip something greasy. Once a cat knocked over a vase of flowers while we were visiting. So far, our laminate has passed all the tests. True, I bought a rag from microfiber - it absorbs water well. I wipe greasy stains with a special detergent.

The conclusion is clear - you can lay laminate in the kitchen. The main thing is to comply with all the conditions for choosing a coating (moisture resistance, high wear resistance, special treatment of locks with wax or silicone, laying the floor with a good specialist).

I wrote about all the pluses in the review (see above)
