Pile screw foundation

Compared with the tape, the foundation on screw piles does not require extensive excavation, wet pouring and some other restrictions, for example, on the terrain. Screw piles are installed directly into the ground. Reviews on the pile-screw foundation are the comments of users who have already installed this design. Having become acquainted with them, you will understand the advantages and disadvantages of this type of foundation.

Pile screw foundation - reviews, opinions, discussions

Fast, reliable, efficient

I don’t know how the others are, but I ordered all the work from the pile manufacturers of the company Piles Service from Moscow. The guys took over all the work on the production of high-quality piles and their installation. I am grateful to them for this.

What I personally liked was the fact that installing the foundation on screw piles is much faster than filling the foundation with concrete. I liked the fact that the guys from the company give 20 years of warranty, well, of course, I would have given longer, because the piles are painted and durable. If I made a conclusion for myself, now I will use piles for any

Erected quickly. Yamoburom based on a small tractor. Tying profile 20 to 40 in two rows around the perimeter for further installation of decor panels. On top of the harness, instead of a mortgage crown, is a channel. Next is the mortgage crown. I will say this about corrosion: treat it normally and be sure to check how the sand concrete was poured into the inside of the pile and spilled. Corrosion needs access of oxygen, but laughter about reeling !!! probably twisted by hand. There are many pluses, oh it is for wooden and skeleton moorings, etc. Yes, I forgot ... look at the pile wall thickness !!!
pros
pluses in everything but only for lightweight constructions and a properly broken pile field.
Minuses
I don’t see anyone who understands their purpose.

A few words about the disadvantages of screw piles for capital construction
A comment
Despite the almost unanimous admiration for screw piles, no no, and dissatisfaction will slip through, either the quality of work, then the material, or the construction of the foundation in general. It should be understood that screw piles are not a panacea and not a universal building material, but just one of them. For example, I have a gazebo on my site on such stilts and have been feeling fine for 5 years now. And the neighbor put on a pile an apartment building of 1.5 floors.

Not to mention the psychological effect, no matter how you look, the house is on “chicken legs”. In addition, twice a year, a neighbor crawls under the house and smears the steel shell of the piles with a kuzbaslak in places of contact with the ground. But under the surface of the soil they are not processed and are successfully rusting. Of course, there are technologies for replacing columnar foundations, but it is very expensive and it is better not to carry it out unless absolutely necessary.

Susceptibility to corrosion

Pile foundation without special grillage
A comment
I built my house from logs two years ago, so I can tell you about the pile foundation in some detail. There were only two key points in favor of the screw foundation. First of all, the cost of materials and installation and a large number of companies that work with him, which made it possible not to wait in line. Only 6 piles were needed for a 6x6 house. Fortunately, the soil on the site is loam, so it was possible to drive the piles over the entire 3m length. At the same time, no piling wobble was observed, although the height of the pile above the ground was 0.5 m. So, I didn’t even make a concrete grillage, or tie it with wooden beams. So the first crown on the piles and set. My opinion is that for small and medium-sized houses, screw piles are the optimal foundation for the price-quality ratio on most soils.

Corrosion-resistant coating for metal screw piles.
A comment
It is necessary to choose the company very carefully, the contractor, and be sure to be present at least a couple of times at the construction site in order to control how the process of twisting the piles and which particular building elements were delivered to you. I’ll tell you my story of finding the right company and quality piles.

One company buzzed all ears with an advertisement about the highest quality of its products. They say the piles in her are processed by hot dip galvanizing. It turned out that “galvanization” falls off in layers directly from the pile on the ground surface. But what happens during friction on the earth in the thickness of the soil? In addition, you need to take care of the anticorrosion coating of the area directly above the ground.
For example, after painting the aerial parts, I wrapped the piles with heat-shrink film and went through a hairdryer. It seems to me that this is much more efficient and reliable than galvanizing, which is badly damaged when twisted.
pros
High installation speed
Minuses
The need for high-quality corrosion coatings and batch processing

Avaricious pays twice - negative experience in building a pile foundation
A comment
Piles were installed in March 2011. The workers of the Fundeks company twisted 3 m piles with a diameter of 108 mm and poured them with concrete. With managers, they stipulated all the nuances of the design and separately that the piles would not swing. Unfortunately, the heads at the time of signing the acceptance certificate were painted and it was impossible to check the piles. I strongly suspect that the time was chosen on purpose.

After drying, the piles were checked, and it turned out that they have a strong backlash. We turned to the company, a specialist came and said that the matter was in soft soils. We were offered an additional reinforcing band of metal pipes for 20 thousand rubles. Unfortunately, the company is already with the act I signed and nothing can be done. My advice to you is, do not sign anything and do not pay for the work in full until you personally check each pile for rigidity and lack of play.
pros
Quick work
Affordable cost
Minuses
Unreliable foundation
Be careful when choosing a contractor.

Soil compaction around a screw pile
A comment
I will share my first experience of installing piles on my site. The name of the company does not matter, the main thing is to control the screwing work yourself. Piles F108 were installed at 2.5 m. Having read the horror stories about “staggering” piles on the Internet, he began to check them himself after pouring. And he found a small backlash, was very upset, and began to estimate the costs of grillage or reinforced metal strapping.

But the start of the construction of the box at home was planned only after 3 weeks, and during this time several rather heavy rains passed, the soil was compacted, and the piles no longer swayed. So he managed with an ordinary wooden beam grillage, screwing it to each pile shelf with self-tapping screws and bolted joints. In my opinion, the biggest problem is not the backlash of the frame corrosion processes. The main thing is to use high-quality anticorrosive primer for metal.
pros
Quick installation
Low cost
A short technological break before starting the next work
Minuses
There is a small backlash on the initial stages of work

more than three years
